The History of Technology

Technology has roughly started from the year 3300 BC to 1200 BC. This was the very time when civilization has first started coalescing around Fertile Crescent before this spread to the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. Bronze Age has in fact earned its name since this was the time when the metals like tin and copper have been used for the making of weapons and tools. Several of the advanced technologies that were used during that time included the agricultural innovations, use of salt, chariot, and construction of the permanent settlements as well as the further domestication of the animals.

Iron Age

Iron Age traces back its roots from 1200 BC up to 500 BC, marking the birth and rise of the Roman Empire. Using iron has become very famous during that time and a lot of people have chosen to migrate to the further reaches of the continents such as Europe. The technological advancements that were notable then included sundial, glass, education, ships, trade, and architecture.

Age of the Ancient Civilizations

It was the age that has been formed during 500 BC with the Roman Empire’s birth to around 500 AD when this fell. Most of the scholars regard this as the Golden Age since there were a lot of technological innovations that took place. These included education, city planning, paper, education, architecture, math, magnetic compass, bridges, aqueducts, religion, government and law, road building, concrete, philosophy, art and more.

Middle Ages

It was this particular age in Europe that spanned from 500 AD up to around 1500. This started growing in every aspect of the society that then ushered in the renowned Renaissance period. There were also numerous advancements in technology during this time such as the mechanical clock, windmill, military, architecture, agricultural innovations and spectacles.

Muslim Agricultural Revolution

The world of Islam that as predominantly found in the Middle East has greatly revolutionized in the 8th century. This then globalized various agricultural crops and techniques. Several of the period’s technological innovations are the fountain pen, quartz glass, coffee, shampoo, celestial globe, hard soap, mathematical innovations, incendiary devices, and nitric acid.

Renaissance Period

The start of Renaissance Period dated from 14th to 16th century. Several of the notable innovations of this time happened in education. Most of the schools and universities have been developed while other disciples such as medicine, philosophy and architecture thrived.

Age of Exploration

This lasted from 1400s to 1600s. Once the trade turned as a wonderful means of Europeans wealthy countries, this marked the beginning of Age of Exploration. This dominated innovation and technology mainly cartography, navigation and shipping.

Industrial Revolution

This was the period of wonderful innovation due to steam engine and energy. This took place primarily in Britain in the later part of 18th and 19th centuries. Together with Industrial Revolution came revolution in transportation, making it much easier for the people.

19th and 20th Centuries

The biggest technological innovations took place during these two centuries. The list is pretty length but it is a must to note that the innovations were the result of all the past discoveries. The most significant innovations that took place for the past 200 years included radio, television, telephone, computer, automobile, internet, airplane, nuclear power, spacecraft, photography and so much more.

Modern World

Now, the society has seen vast changes because of enhancements and innovations from technology. Centuries transpired before the society became exactly what it is today. Without a doubt, technology has enormous impact on society. But without a doubt, technology still has a very long way ahead of it.
