14 Common Misconceptions about Technology

Technology is found anywhere you look to the point that it is now an integral, if not an essential part, of your everyday life. With technology’s complexity, there also comes a long list of misunderstandings and misconceptions. This list cites the top 14 common misconceptions about tech that you should start dispelling from your system as early as now.

  1. The web is the internet when the truth is, the web will not exist if there is no internet in the first place.
  2. It is risky to use your cellphone when you are at a gas station.
  3. The web cookies can be very dangerous and you need to avoid them at all cost. But, these are merely plain text files used for the sites to store information on your computer for managing your browsing.
  4. Macs will never get viruses. However, even though Macs from Apple almost never gets infected with viruses, there are still some that are in existence.
  5. You have to drain the battery of your phone before you charge it. But, this only applies to nickel cadmium batteries that suffer from memory effect. The lithium ion batteries mostly used today are way different from them.
  6. You need to wait to upgrade since something new is coming around the corner. Yet, always remember that in this tech world, something new will always be around the corner waiting to be released.
  7. A better service can be expected when you see more bars on your phone. But, the quality of service will really depend on the number of devices that the cell tower serves at a specific time.
  8. You will delete all your files permanently when you empty the recycle bin or trash. However, the truth is that this will not free the space up on the hard drive and some fragments are going to be left behind that you can revive in the future.
  9. The printing press or its movable type is an invention of Johannes Gutenberg. In reality, though, the first ever ones were already used in Korea and China several centuries earlier.
  10. Pong was the first ever video game. However, computers are older than what most people think and as far as video games are concerned, there was a game invented much earlier called OXO.
  11. Hitler was the creator of Autobahn. This was what most people believed. Yet, this was built way back in 1931, opened by the Mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer.
  12. Charles Lindbergh was the very first man who was able to fly the Atlantic Ocean. While he was the first one to do it solo, a crew of Navy-Curtiss NC-4 flying boat completed the journey earlier in 24 days.
  13. The Highway system in the United States has been designed to let the planes land during emergencies. This is just an urban legend, unfortunately.
  14. Planes are dumping the wastes from their toilet while they are still up in the air. Well, this is something impossible and in reality, the wastes are being dumped inside a special tank.
